This section (Omeka Glossary) allows you to know the different terms used by Omeka to understand and to know their implications and applications:
Vocabulary: at our disposal, under this option, we have all the metadata collections. There are some default ones, such as Dublin Core, but we can import a new vocabulary or even customize a new one according to our needs.
Dublin Core: metadata set intended to describe documents.
Metadata: data that describe other data. “Data that defines and describes other data”
Template: view that is applied to Omeka and which allows visualizing the different elements with different styles for each of the sections.
Collection: a way of grouping items together, regardless of the object associated. For example, a collection called “The 80s" can group text articles, letters, photographs, biographies…
Modules: small code script that allows Omeka to increase its functionalities – for example, to enable its access to social networks and share contents directly or to enhance some of Omeka's default functionalities.
Items: these are the type of objects that we can have in Omeka, and that have metadata attached to them. An item is the basic unit of information in Omeka. These items are composed of media.
Media: these are the different resources that make up that resource (item) can be an image, a URL address, a file…
Resources templates: these templates can be created for data collection depending on the vocabulary. Although it is not recommended, we can always include new fields and descriptions to adapt it to the specific needs of our organization.
Sites: this term refers to the different views that we can have, as well as they can show the different sets of items.
Pages: within the sites we have the navigation pages in which we can implement themes, make partial views... to promote our bibliographic resources.
